Hardy Evans Collection

Hardy Evans Collection

The Hardy Evan Collection is a collection of photographs of the construction of the Wilson Dam and surrounding features. The collection was donated to the university in 1969 by Mrs. W. H. Evans of Leighton, Alabama.

The Wilson Dam was a major feat of hydroelectric power created by the Tennessee Authority (TVA) in the 1920s, in order to better serve the Tennessee Valley's power needs. It was constructed by the TVA and Army Corp of Engineers and is named after President Woodrow Wilson. The dam itself is located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama between Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, and is one of two in the North Alabama vicinity, the other being Wheeler Dam.

Our digital collections also house other image collections with photographs of the Wilson Dam, including the Tennessee Valley Authority: Wilson Dam Collection and William Lindsey McDonald Collection.
