Description

Although the map was printed in 1824, it depicts the Alabama of 1822, including the 1821 county creations of Decatur (abolished in 1824) and Covington (which was designated as Jones Country during part of 1868). The map also features roads, such as the road to Georgia from Montepelier and Jackson's direct road from New Orleans. In addition, Native American villages, such as the Coesada Village and Island on the Tennessee River, Turkey Town on the Cosa River, Pennotawtown, and the capital of Cahaba (also known as Cahawba) are depicted alongside many forts.
