    Description

The Lurleen Burns Wallace Fine Arts Center opened May 18, 1969. A grant obtained under the Higher Education Facilities Act was obtained to build this new structure. At the time, the Fine Arts Center had the largest auditorium anywhere in Northwest Alabama, with a seating capacity of 1,746 (divided into three sections). There was a separate 4-story music building also built at this time. Florence architects Turner, Northington, Smith & Kranert prepared the preliminary plans for this structure.
