    Description

By 1917, there was a need for additional housing facilities for the students at State Normal School. At the time, there were no state funds available for colleges and universities to utilize in upgrades and improvements on campus. The City of Florence made the construction of two new dormitories, Striplin Hall and Florence Hall, possible for the school. This structure, Florence Hall (on the right) with Striplin Hall (on the left), was a white-framed structure built on the corner of O'Neal Avenue and North Seminary Street. It served as a male dormitory. Florence Hall was purchased in 1941 by the university and used a housing for students and faculty. By the fall of 1967, both Florence and Striplin Halls had to be closed.
