STATE OF ALABAMA
PROCLAMATION
BY THE GOVERNOR
WHEREAS, The University of North Alabama basketball team has won the state's first National Basketball Championship; and
WHEREAS, the Lions won the NCAA Division II championship with a 64-50 decision over Wisconsin-Green Bay, and
WHEREAS, USA finished the 1978-79 season with 22-9 record; and
WHEREAS, over 500 UNA fans were present to celebrate with the Lions their long to be remembered victory; now
THEREFORE, I, Fob Janes, Governor of the State of Alabama, do hereby proclaim Friday, March 23, 1979 as
UNA BASKETBALL DAY
In the city of Florence, Alabama and urge all citizens in this area to join in congratulating this basketball team, its coaches and managers upon a championship that has brought national honor to the University of North Alabama, the city of Florence and the State of Alabama.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I
have hereunto set my hand
and caused the Great Seal
of the State of Alabama to
be affixed by the Secretary
of State at the State Capitol
in the City of Montgomery
on this the 22nd day of
March, 1979.
