RESOLUTION

COMMENDING

THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH ALABAMA BASKETBALL TEAM

WHEREAS, the University of North Alabama basketball team placed first in the nation in the 1979 NCAA Division II Playoffs, held March 16 & 17, 1979, in Springfield, Missouri; and

WHEREAS, the UNA Lions basketball team is the first four-year college team in the State of Alabama to win a national championship in basketball; and

WHEREAS, the win at Springfield, Missouri, was the second time in three years that the UNA Lions participated in the NCAA Division II Playoffs; and

WHEREAS, the UNA Lions finished the season with a 22-9 record achieved through countless hours of dedicated practice, working together--as one--with a strong sense of team spirit, with a high degree of technical skill and under the able direction of Head Coach Bill Jones and his Assistant Coach Tommy Suitts; Therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That we the Board of Trustees of the University of North Alabama in annual session and assembled, hereby heartily congratulate and commend the University of North Alabama basketball team, the coaches, and the managers for being national champions in the 1978-79 season and for bringing national recognition to our fine university and to great State of Alabama.
