Description
Public encouragement had prompted officials at the University of North Alabama to begin a fund-raising drive for a replacement for Leo I in late January and early February 1988. On March 25, 1988, the Leothon was held on WTRT-TV to raise funds for a new lion cub as well as for improvements for a new cub den. At Leo I's Celebration of Life in April 1988, blueprints for the new cubbing den were revealed and the groundbreaking for the den was held as well.
