According to the Diorama:
"The Circle K Club is sponsored by Kiwanis International and is a service and character building organization. The local chapter was organized in April of 1958. The club empathizes service to the school and the community. As is Kiwanis, the Circle K motto is 'We Build.'
During the 1961-1962 school year the club sponsored many projects; totaling over 300 work hours during the first semester alone. Leo the Lion, now the symbol of school spirit at Florence State, was founded by the Circle K. Other projects participated in were Campus Tours for incoming freshmen, Homecoming, a 'Get out the Vote Campaign,' Religious Emphasis Week, a Christmas Party for underprivileged children, Open House Tours, and Kiwanis Pancake Day. During the spring, the Circle K Club sponsors, in cooperation with Kiwanis, the F-Day Football Game. As a project of its own, the club sponsors The Ugliest Man Contest.
Membership in the Circle K is limited according to the enrollment of the school, for the purpose of effectiveness in service. Its purposes and objectives are the emphasis of the advantages of the American way of life, to provide an opportunity for leadership training, to serve the campus and the community, to encourage participation in group activities, to promote good fellowship and high scholarship, and to afford useful training in the social graces and personality development.
Noteworthy of our local chapter is that Larry Sparks, one of its members, holds the Lieutenant Governorship for the First Division of the State's District."
