Abstract
In this study, sexual orientation disclosure, impression management, neuroticism, education, and age are statistically significant predictors of the importance of a gay and lesbian community when seeking a job in a new city. Internal locus of control was not a statistically significant predictor of the importance of a gay and lesbian community when seeking a job in a new city. This research potentially offers insights into other minority or stigmatized groups, suggesting that when those individuals are seeking jobs in a new city, a supportive community may be an important decision factor. From a human resource perspective, diversity and a supportive local community may be deciding factors in attracting talent, as these factors may significantly influence individuals’ relocation decisions when job-seeking.
