Description

Depicts miniature of Lourdes, France basilica located in Ave Maria Grotto (Alabama). Carved text on miniature reads: "Miniature Grotto and Basilica in Lourdes France on Anniversary 1858-1958." Text on verso reads: "Ave Maria Grotto. This, the last miniature built by Brother Joseph, was completed on the hundredth year from the time that the Blessed Virgin appeared to a little peasant girl on 18 occasions. Miraculous cures have taken place in Lourdes, for people with diseases believed to be incurable. Brother Joseph was 80 years old when this replica was completed."
