Description

By 1917, there was a need for additional housing facilities for the students at State Normal School. At the time, there were no state funds available for colleges and universities to utilize in upgrades and improvements on campus. The City of Florence made the construction of two new dormitories, Striplin Hall and Florence Hall, possible for the school. This structure, Striplin Hall, was a white-framed structure constructed on North Seminary Street. It served as housing for both students and faculty beginning in 1917. Striplin was purchased by Florence State Teachers College in 1941. During the years 1965-1967, it was home to freshmen and sophomore women only. It was closed in 1967.
