CITY OF FLORENCE, ALABAMA

Office of the Mayor

Proclamation

WHEREAS, with the fighting spirit and determination of true "Lion" strength, the University of North Alabama Basketball Team completed its 1990-91 season with a superb 29-4 record and the title of NCAA DIVISION II NATIONAL BASKETBALL CHAMPIONS; and

WHEREAS, with tremendous effort and dedication, the team has distinguished themselves and brought honor and recognition to the University and the entire Shoals area with their 79-72 final win over Bridgeport; they have established the school's best overall record and had the most wins in the school's 42-year basketball history; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Gary Elliott, along with his staff, are to be praised for their encouragement and untiring, strong leadership in escorting the Lions to their greatest season: the coaches and team have displayed the highest quality of sportsmanship and character throughout the entire year; and

WHEREAS, the City of Florence is extremely proud of this team and we extend our most sincere congratulations to them on this special day; by name they are:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of Florence. Alabama, do hereby proclaim Thursday, April 4. 1991, as UNA BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP DAY in the City. We commend you on this tremendous achievement and urge the citizens of this area to join with us in showing how proud we are of you and for you. You are true champions!
