Transcript
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the University of North Alabama Lions Basketball Team, won the NCAA Division II National Championship Title in 1978-79, a third place finish in 1976-77 and a fourth place finish in 1979-80, to become the first four-year institution in the state ever to win a national basketball title; and
WHEREAS, UNA has a great record of 21-10 for the 1979-80 basketball season; and
WHEREAS, the Lions brought back to Flowers Hall a trophy for fourth place finish in the Nation for 1979-80; and
WHEREAS, Otis Boddie was named to the First Team All-America Team by the Associated Press and Coaches Association.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED BY THE MAYOR OF THE CITY OF FLORENCE, ALABAMA that the University of North Alabama Basketball Team and its Coaches be congratulated on a very good season and for their participation in the NCAA Division II National Finals in 1977, 1979 and 1980.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this Proclamation be conveyed to Coach Bill Jones and coaches and members of the Basketball Team of the University of North Alabama, and the Florence Times - Tri-Cities Daily, and that this Proclamation be spread upon the Minutes of the Board of Commissioners of the City of Florence, Alabama.
