Description

Dr. James Albert Keller was born December 4, 1887, in Cullman, Alabama. He graduated from State Normal School in 1915. He taught in Cullman, Hanceville, and Arkadelphia schools until 1918 and was principal of Cullman County High School. He became superintendent of Cullman County schools from 1919-1921 and then became superintendent of Covington County schools from 1921-1935. In 1935, he was elected State Superintendent in Montgomery, Alabama. He served as President of the Alabama Education Association. In 1938, he was appointed the fifteenth president of Florence State Teachers College. He tragically died in an automobile accident along with his wife, Mariglen, in August 1948.
