Description
In 1897, Dr. James Knox Powers was offered the position of president at the University of Alabama and he accepted. He served in that position from 1897-1901. He served as President of the Alabama Education Association during this time (actually serving twice) He resigned in 1901 and became the southern representative of the B.F. Johnson Publishing Company of Virginia for the next ten years. He helped publish Colaw, Duke and Powers Arithmetics and Algebras. In 1911, he again became the president of State Normal College as the thirteenth president to hold this position. He died two years into his second administration on August 18, 1913.
