Description

Dr. Robert Miller Guillot became the seventeenth president of Florence State University in April 1972. His official inauguration was on December 5, 1972. During his administration, Dr. Guillot brought the first "live" lion to Campus in 1974 (Leo I). He served as president of the Gulf South (Atlantic) Conference from 1978-1979. He also served on the National Collegiate Athletic Association's President's Commission from 1984-1988 as well as serving as chairman of the Council of University Presidents from 1984-1985. He was Alabama's representative to the American Association of State Colleges and Universities. In 1986, he received the Outstanding Administrator Award from Alabama College Administrators. He served seventeen years as president of Florence State University and The University of North Alabama. He retired December 1989. In 2000, Dr. Guillot received the University of North Alabama's Lifetime Achievement Award. He passed away in Florence on November 15, 2000, at age 78.
