Wilson Dam

The Wilson Dam was a major feat of hydroelectric power created by the Tennessee Authority (TVA) in the 1920s, in order to better serve the Tennessee Valley's power needs. It was constructed by the TVA and Army Corp of Engineers and is named after President Woodrow Wilson. The dam itself is located in Muscle Shoals, Alabama between Colbert and Lauderdale Counties, and is one of two in the North Alabama vicinity, the other being Wheeler Dam.

The Wilson Dam Digital Photography Collection contains a variety of photographs pertaining to the construction of the dam and its existence shortly after its construction. Thus, the majority of the photographs within the collection are from 1918-1925, the dam's period of construction. The photographs are obtained from a variety of collections housed within UNA's archive, including the Benjamin Bracken Collection, William Lindsey McDonald Image Collection, and Mary Ann Green McMurry Collection.

Although the Wilson Dam photos from the collection have been imported into this gallery, photographs regarding the Wilson Dam and its construction can also be accessed via the William Lindsey McDonald Image Collection through searching the left sidebar using keywords, like "Wilson Dam" or "TVA." The Postcard Collection also includes images of the Wilson Dam and can be searched in the same fashion.
