Description
Dr. James Ward Hardy came to LaGrange College in 1847 to fill the vacancy left by Professor Tutwiler, who was Chair of Chemistry and Mathematics. He was also a graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Athens, Virginia. He became the third president of LaGrange College in 1852. He continued teaching chemistry even after he became president. He died suddenly on August 15, 1853 age the age of 38. He is buried on Lawrence Hill at LaGrange Cemetery.
